Andrea De Francesco
Living as foreigners in their own country, Kurdish refugees find themselves again in a place of instability inside Greek refugee camps. Using film, charcoal animation and a variety of mediums, my works explores the Kurdish identity through collaboration with Syrian Refugees. Poetics, images, and intuition become guiding principles in exploring the beautiful complexity of each individual in which ancient stories and memories blend with daily life.

Binary is an expanded cinema experience incorporating found footage, sculpture, writing, performance, and an ongoing collaboration between two artists, one long-departed, one very much in the gravity of the present.
From the turbulent violence of creation, imagination’s deconstruction of memory propels life forward and from within this destruction infinite possibilities of new truths of a world are projected onto the present ground, their invisible shadows reaching into the future, continually changing form because memory is a lie, after all. And into history everyone must fall — like gravity, from within a maelstrom of darkness, broken by islands of fire these sirens, singing with light, they call…and call.
