FSP@PPG: Performing Hayti/Haiti/History Wednesday | June 14, 2017 | 6:30pm | Power Plant Gallery a conversation with #PPGArtists Dasha Chapman and Aya Shabu, and Haitian-American musician Leyla McCalla Join us for a conversation (and possible impromptu performance) with Dasha Chapman, Aya Shabu, and Leyla McCalla as they explore their work and projects. The event will be moderated by Laurent Dubois of Duke University's Forum for Scholars and Publics. Light refreshments will be served following the event.

Walking tour of Hayti

Walking tour of Hayti, Durham's historic neighborhood, as part of Hayti/Haiti/History with #PPGArtists-in-residence Aya Shabu & Dasha Chapman. The tour begins at 10am and will meet at the Hayti Heritage Center. The July 8th walking tour is free. Donations directly to the artist, Aya Shabu, are encouraged. This 75-minute walking tour explores the historic African American neighborhood of Hayti with financial ties to Black Wall Street. Tour makes stops at St. Joseph's AME, The Carolina Times, Standford L. Warren Library…

Join #PPGArtists-in-residence Aya Shabu and Dasha Chapman for a community workshop at the Power Plant Gallery to explore their research around Hayti and Haiti. Hayti/Haiti/History is a creative history project exploring connections between Hayti, Durham's historic neighborhood and Haiti, the First Black Republic. Hayti/Haiti/History: Final Performance

#PPGArtists-in-residence Aya Shabu and Dasha Chapman will hold a performance based on research and community feedback over the course of their 6-week residency. A reception will follow the performance Hayti/Haiti/History is a creative history project exploring connections between Hayti, Durham's historic neighborhood and Haiti, the First Black Republic. Chapman and Shabu are in residence through July 15th. Public studio hours are Thursday, Friday, Saturday, from 12pm–5pm.
